The hermetically sealed dust-bins were part of the grandiose plan. Life size humanoid robots imaginatively named, “DESIDERATA”, would collect hazardous waste from the sprawling plant. Equipped with state of the art stereo sensors for all-terrain navigation, the robots would shift the residue from the source of origination and empty them in the dust bins. The bins themselves were a work of art. Embedding miniature complex component separators, a reverse osmosis process would take place within the bins. Finally, by means of a hidden chute the waste now devoid of all hazardous properties would flow into a vast expanse of water downstream to the plant.
This was, until the robots ran riot. 2 turbine explosions, 33 human casualties, a polluted river later, the renegade robots were finally ‘deactivated.’
Meanwhile the dustbins bear mute witness to man’s arrogance that birthed apostates and mechanistic Frankenstein’s at the cost of hope and simplicity.
