Mr.Francesco’s Altar of Peace

Parking his gleaming Maserati in an alley abutting an alcove of randomly positioned trees, Francesco strode purposefully towards the neglected and isolated stone structure. Before entering he paused before a gnarled tree. Running his palms slowly against its rough bark, he felt his eyes moisten. Once inside, he stared at the picture of the old gardener nailed to the wall.

Falling on his knees, he allowed himself to be racked by sobs as he remembered his God who had gently carried the wailing baby abandoned under the shade of the tree outside into this very house 67 years ago.
